10.05.1940 Curchy
Hello to all,
Always in search of information. Today, a He.111 of 9./KG1 V4 + ? Wnr ? Fallen on 10.05.1940 to CURCHY, between Nesle and Chaulnes (Somme). Shoot down by the French AA. Two KIA, Obgf Viktor Eisenbach and Uffz Rudolf Naumann, interred in Bourdon. One hurt and a POW taken to Villers Carbonnel. Who are these two men ? Thank you for your help. |

9./KG1 Heinkel He111H. Engaged by Hurricanes of No.85 and 607 Sqdns. south-east of Albert during sortie to attack airfields and also hit by AA fire. Brought down near the German WW I cemetery between Curchy and Manicourt2.50 p.m. BM Uffz Rudolf Naumann and BF Obergefr Viktor Eisenbach killed. BS Oberfw Fritz Schlotter and BO Fw Helmut Niemeyer captured wounded, admitted to hospital in Péronne, FF Uffz Hermann Heintzer captured wounded in right shoulder, sent to Henri-Martin hospital in St-Quentin, all later released. Aircraft 100% write-off.

I think not. I have MITZKATH as Bordschutze aboard another aircraft that returned damaged. Losses to 9./KG1 that day being as follows: 9./KG1 Heinkel He111H-3 (5627). Port engine damaged in attacks by P/O Parrott and Sgt Townsend of No.607 Squadron during sortie to attack airfields near Albert and starboard undercarriage collapsed on attempting forced-landing south-east of St Simon-Clastres airfield3.00 p.m. BF Obergefr Aloys Freisberg captured wounded in head, admitted to Henri-Martin hospital in St-Quentin, FF Lt Kurt Neumann, BO Fw Hans Oppermann, BS Flgr Heinrich Pümpel and BM Flgr Willi Pfeiffer captured unhurt – all later released. Aircraft V4+ET 100% write-off. 9./KG1 Heinkel He111H. Engaged by Hurricanes of No.85 and 607 Sqdns. south-east of Albert during sortie to attack airfields and also hit by AA fire.
