Re: Uffz Josef Stiglmayer 9/JG-3

Here is a photo of a grave stone.

A list that shows his name as the last one under "Second Part 1941."

Re: Uffz Josef Stiglmayer 9/JG-3

Thanks Ed,

The second two references are useful and appear to back up back up what others have said. Interesting though that the Nordic register appears to give his successful claim on 29th June (If I am interpreting it correctly) as his first, If he was the same person that claimed a 'Spitfire' on 7th June 1940 then it was at least his second.

The grave reference is clearly not our man, the dates on the headstone are totally wrong...and he would have been just 14 when he was shot down and killed.

Does the EKM match JG 3 or 77?

Re: Uffz Josef Stiglmayer 9/JG-3

My uncle was CO of 9. Staffel from July 1 until September 30, 1940 (also acting Gruppenkommandeur of III. Gruppe when Balthasar was wounded). Previously he was acting Staffelfuehrer of 4. JG 3 from April, 1940 and scored a victory over a Blenheim on June 6 with this unit. Hauptmann Dr. Albrecht Ochs.

I know the headstone has the wrong dates. It just surprised me when I found it. I don't know if that last name is common or not.

Chris,

The EKM is for 9./JG 3 which would confirm that the JG 3 Stiglmair and JG 77 Stiglmayer/Stiglmair are the same person.

Craig...

Chris,

The name is Stiglmair......no doubt about that....NVM confirms it and in his hometown and old address Stiglmair's are all over the place....
