KG 27 airfield query 1940.
Hallo all,
Could anyone please tell me if any part of KG 27 was based on the French airfield of Plivot at any time from May 1940 to September 1940 ? I have already checked Michael Holm's website. Regards, Martin Gleeson. |

Re: KG 27 airfield query 1940.
Hello!
Epernay has been used by the French then the German fighter squadrons. IMHO I doubt very much bombers like He111 (as used by KG 27) could have been based here: the field is quite short (largest take off direction 1250m or so, using every meter of grass available), and there never was any kind of heavy equipment (one fuel tank with two or three fighter type refuelling stations, an that's it. No hangar in 1940, no dispersal area, no cover...) But this is only circumstantial evidence... JVM |
