ORBs of the F.I.U.

Are the ORBs of non numbered units such as the FIU and AFDU available on line from the National Archive? If so how does one access them?

Thanks,
Tom

Tom,

Both are in the AIR29 series of files. Not online.

Re: ORBs of the F.I.U.

Dear Tom,

I have extracts from the Fighter Interception Unit ORB taken from AIR/27 and covers the activities of FIU from 26th April 1940 to 23rd December 1941. These entries primarily cover AI radar for night fighting when fitted to Bristol Blenheims under Command of Wg Cmdr Chamberlain. Let me know if this is of use and I may provide details.

Thanks, Dave. I thought that might be the case.

Larry, I appreciate your kind offer. However my main interest is in the claims made by pilots of these units and the particular aircraft they were flying.

Regards,
Tom

If interested by claims, you can look by Combat Report (AIR50): https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...wse/r/h/C42245

Re: ORBs of the F.I.U.

Thanks Alfred & Chris,

I believe I have all the claims for these units, however the serial numbers and/or code letters for most of the specific aircraft used to make the claims are unknown to me. In some cases even the type of aircraft used is unclear. My guess is that the ORBs do not contain this information, otherwise it would have appeared in other researchers works. Combat reports are also not available for a number of claims.

Regards,
Tom
