Lost Blenheim 14 April 1940
Hi guys
On 14 April 1940, a frustrated young Canadian would-be pilot - AC2 James Lewis (holder of a private pilots licence) 'stole' a Blenheim of 40 Squadron from RAF Wyton and set out for Norway. He failed to return. Does anyone know the serial number of the Blenheim and its fate? Did it simply run out of fuel and crash into the sea? A sad story. Cheers Brian |

L9207
AC2 Lewis, from Morden, Manitoba, Canada, an airman who had failed his pilot's course, was supposed to be guarding L9207, when he decided to take it for a flight, which ended prematurely in the Thames estuary, and his body was never recovered. AC2 J.F.B.Lewis KIA http://www.lostbombers.co.uk/bomber.php?id=743 http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_...sualty=1803386 |

Re: Lost Blenheim 14 April 1940
Hi Gary
There was also an airman who 'stole' a Hurricane in June 1940, crashed and was killed. Possibly others. Cheers Brian |
