1st 1./JG77 victory Far North (SB bomber) 24 June 1941

Hi guys

I have not been able to establish the identity of the pilot of 1./JG77 who shot down the first Russian aircraft in the Far North theatre, on 24 June 1941, an SB reconnaissance bomber.

One would have thought that this would have been commemorated some way, perhaps in the newspapers?

Has anyone any idea?

Cheers
Brian

Hello!

Could be Hugo Dahmer?

Once upon time I started this thread:
Hugo Dahmer's (1./JG 77) mount Summer 1941
http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showth...ight=rovaniemi

I think the question I asked is still unanswered.

IIRC Dahmer received some Finnish medal for shootdowns over Rovaniemi June 1941. Cannot be sure after so many years.Edit(since studying this).

Cheers,
Kari

Hi Kari

Thanks for your response. However, I have Dahmer's first claim as having occurred on 26 June (his 10th overall).

My money is on Carganico, since he was the Staffelkapitan - possibly keen to score the Staffel's first victory and his own 9th? The SB was shot down over Kirkenes at 13.10 on 24 June.

Carganico was credited with his 25th on 2 September. Would be good to establish details of those in between!

Cheers
Brian

Mombeek in his book about JG 5 (Volume 4) say Dahmer has his 20th claim at 11.7.41. But in Luftwaffe Lagebericht Nr. 669 it ia said that Dahmer already claimed 20th victory at 8.7.41

Maybe not of help, but confirmation that Carganico/ dammer were in the are (Mombeek):
The Rotte of Oblt. Horst Carganico and Ofw. Hugo Dahmer of 1./JG.77 strafed the lighthouse on the Fischer peninsula, back at Kirkenes Dahmer recognized 7 holes of rifle fire in his Bf.109 “Yellow 7”.
The SB was s/d in the area of Rybachi peninsula (= Fischer-Halbinsel).

No, according to all data SB-3 was shot down over Kirkenes (AOK 20, Luftwaffe Lagebericht)

I can't say where Sergey found this data. A. Mardanov also wrote "Tsyp-Navolok", but in documents of VVS SF stated, that SB was lost due unknown cause. All german docs indicated that plane was shot down over Kirkenes.

Maybe the mission in Mombeek is a different one, it was common for Carganico/ Dahmer to fly more than one during the long days of mid-summer 1941 in the north...
