Flugbuch Gerhard Streicher JG 27

The following photo is presented badly, however the document associated with it appears to be in recognition for the work of a coastal short-range reconnaissance staffel.

Last Miscellaneous

This last "misc." photo is of Wing Leader Stanford Tuck's Spitfire when he was shot down on January 28, 1942. There are others of this same crash, but this seems to be a slightly different angle.

109s

The 5th 109; interesting to note that most published photos of III./JG 3 at this time show overall winter white, while the aircraft in the background appears to have the yellow nose.

The 7th 109; any comments on the apparent undersized schlacht marking, or the unusual mottling on the cowling?

Don

The ones I found interesting:
(1)the shot down Spitfire V of 306 Polish Sq. Could be BL733 (Unfortunately the serial is only partly visible), shot down 7-30-42, PO Roman Pentz.
(2) Shot down Mustang I,239 Squadron, S/N AG565.
3) Shot dowFairey Battle-12 Sq RAF-1940

Hi Don,

I think this is a schlacht a/c. Please note the letter A aft the balkenkreuz.

Regards

Robert

Hi,

I agree that this looks as taken from a different angle.

My question is "What is the marking on the side of the engin pannel, ? I do not mean the scoeboard. Forward of that.

Is it some kind of art work that in other photos that has been censored by the Germans ?"

There is a large pic of the pannel on page 10 of "In Enemy Hands" that does not show anything in this area.

Alex

Tuck's Spitfire

Alex:

Not quite sure what that is. That is the "customary" position of the Wing Leader or Squadron Leader pennant and he was Wing Leader at that time. However, it is shaped more like a Squadron Leader rectangle rather than the Wing Leader triangular pennant.
