Re: A20 shot down end of 1942 near El Alamein

Kaiyan,
Any DB-7s flown by USAAF units would have had US markings (star and bar). Depending on the source of the aircraft they might have had RAF fin flashes or other markings. But the US national markings for sure.

Enjoy!

Frank.

Rats -- no strike-out formatting! Delete "and bar". My head is elsewhere in the war. FJO

Hello,
Re markings,
No "Bar"
Only star at the time, some perhaps had yellow outer ring but I doubt it.

Re: A20 shot down end of 1942 near El Alamein

Hello,
A couple of pictures of 47BG a/c in "Fighters Over Tunisia".
One shows US stile camouflage with nose artwork and only serial number on fin. Has large a/c in squadron number on rudder "17".
The other also in US camouflage with nose covered over and guns installed, used as a "Staffer", number on fin "14",
I think that the older 15 BS a/c must have been either all ex RAF or were intended for RAF and redirected for US service, these were in RAF camouflage but had US national markings over the RAF ones, they probably retained the RAF fin flash.
