Number 888602 still readable. Is this number listed on a macr. Identity of the a/c? Thanks |

Re: USAF LOSS
hello,
Short answer is yes it would be recorded in an MACR. But you would have to know the a/c serial number or the MACR number or crewmembers name first I expect, unless it can be brought up on the Footnote site by entering the number of the gun ? Good luck Alex |

Re: USAF LOSS
answer is in microfilm roll A1115 volume 2 - machine gun serials number 686963 to 1085953 - frames 4 to 755.
Perhaps somebody has this microfilm roll in his records. Wise62 |

Re: USAF LOSS
Good evening wise62 !
In my possession is microfilm reel A1115. But my list starts with the machine-gun number 686968. The number 888602 does not appear in my reel. Does probably a second, additional account appear on this reel ?. Or does another reel exist with the frames 4 - 755 and is it available ?. All the best ! Horst Weber |

Re: USAF LOSS
I wonder if this gun may of come from the mid under position on a Halifax or Lancaster?

Re: USAF LOSS
hello Richard,
here is the link with the micro films rolls :http://www.airforcehistory.hq.af.mil/faq/MACR.htm. the serial numbers of the vol2 are from 686968 to 1085953, so 888602 should be there. In fact two wrecks of machine guns have been fished : one with the serial readable : 888602, with what seems to be an automatic system of armement, the second part of MG , in very poor condition, serial not readable, has a manuel system for armement, so man handed at a window of the a/c. A part of frame, also in very poor condition, seemps to be from a B17 and not from a Lanc or Halifax. Wise62 |

Re: USAF LOSS
likely to have been tossed overboard to shed weight on the way over the channel. If so, even if it ditched, there probably were survivors and it probably would not have been on a MACR (for MIA a/c)
