Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Martin,
Thanks for the extra info. One encouraging thing is that more and more new photos seem to be surfacing, nearly all from German sources. Andy |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Thanks Ed, more photos from France!
#2 is Hurricane P3403, by coincidence another of those which was lost in France with no known further allocation after "Tangmere" #3 is Battle L5502/QT-D of 142 Sqn, lost in the early hours of 29 July 1940. This aircraft was very well photographed by the Germans. All three crew were made POW: https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ls/r/C14502948 although Edwards was shot in 1942 whilst trying to escape from a POW camp in Poland: https://losses.internationalbcc.co.uk/loss/106937/ |

I wonder how long it rested on that rolling stock? Initially you could read a code Z behind the roundel. With more and more "hackers" passing by the fabric deteriorated quite rapidly. Wonder where all that fabric (from all those aircraft) went in the end? Most of it was probably thrown away somewhere. The realities of war doesn't really promote carrying dead useless weight.... Re: eBay: Allied intrest
That fabric was trophies of war. Souvenirs for the victors.

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
I know that Ed
What I wonder is what happened to it. If it was all kept and stowed away at home we would basically be drowning in old fabric by now. I still believe most of it was thrown away pretty soon after "hacking" Cheers Stig |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
I know you know that but others might not. No one can say what happened to it. Perhaps some ritual was carried out.
What happened to the souvenirs the Allies took from German aircraft? Best, Ed |
