Hello,

Perhaps two Lancasters on 22 Sep 43. But many of the claims on this evening were not appreciated for lack of witnesses.

Heinz Gossow

Hi guys

Interestingly, The Nachtjagd War Diaries by Boiten and Mackenzie only list one victory on 22 September 1943, this being the Lancaster claimed at 22:30, while Luftwaffe Night Fighter Combat Claims by Foreman, Mathews and Parry as well as the claims list compiled by Tony Wood record two claims as mentioned by Johannes Mathews.

Horrido!

Re: Heinz Gossow

Several printed sources list Gossow with 50 or even 70 kills. How does this come ? Can we agree on a definite highest possible total ?

Re: Heinz Gossow

So far I know only two claims of Ofw. Gossow were appreciated. The other VNE/ASM (Vernichtung nicht erwiesen (Destruction not proved)/Anerkennung später möglich (Recognition later possible) or refused.

Hi guys

He appears to generally be credited with 12 victories. Of these, we have records for the seven or eight mentioned in previous posts but as you can see there is some discrepancy if these were confirmed or not. Personally, I seriously doubt he had 50 to 70 claims.

Horrido!

Re: Heinz Gossow

Yes it seems like this 50/70 kills should be considered a hoax.
