Re: Top Ten Hurricane aces

Good morning Gentlemen,

with the 10th ranking Hurricane ace having scored 17,5 Hurricane kills, several cool aces miss a rank in the top ten:
  • Josef Frantisek 17 Czech Battle of Britain ace
  • Edgar Kain 16 early war ace from New Zealand
  • Witold Urbanowicz 15 Polish Battle of Britain ace
  • Lance Wade 13 top US ace in foreign service
Cheers,

Michael

Re: Top Ten Hurricane aces

I suppose you will only know what they felt they were if the Springboks played the Lions in Rugby or cricket.

Re: Top Ten Hurricane aces

Good afternoon Stefaan,

I suppose the Springboks are the South Africans and the Lions are the Englishmen (?)
Cricket and Rugby will always remain mysteries to Germans.

Cheers,

Michael

Re: Top Ten Hurricane aces

...before I forget:
  • Robert Tuck 15 who transitioned from Spitfire to Hurricane
  • Douglas Bader 11,33 legless wonder who did the same
Kind regards,

Michael

Re: Top Ten Hurricane aces

Good morning Gentlemen,

I strongly recommend Many Souffan's thrilling Edgar Kain biography in ACES N°8.
Despite my limited French skills I had a very good time working it through because the description of Kain's career is so vivid.
His final total is given as 17 confirmed, 3 unconfirmed and 2 damaged.
In older sources a total of 16 kills can often be found.
Which one is the claim in question ?

Cheers,

Michael
