Re: USAAF 511th Fighter Squadron P-47's crashsites Belgium
I do have "Thundermonsters over Europe", but not much in it about the pilots and/or P-47's that I search for. So if you ever find pictures of the P-47 with the serialnumbers and/or the pilots stated in the beginning of this thread, I would be very glad to hear from you!

Re: USAAF 511th Fighter Squadron P-47's crashsites Belgium
Can't find anything on the collision in the copies of the 511FS history I have.
Rickert joined in Aug 44 as a 2nd Lt and became a 1st Lt in Feb 45. Palmer joined in March 45 and his first mission was on the 12th March 45 in K4-C. No collision or deaths recorded in March 45 or of a collision 14th Match 45?? Non combat anyway? Rickert definitely was at the unit in April 45 - claiming 3 ground victories on 16th April. No more listings for Palmer. Palmer is buried in the USA regrds, Mark Bit more. http://usafunithistory.com/PDF/0500/...GHTER%20SQ.pdf |

Re: USAAF 511th Fighter Squadron P-47's crashsites Belgium
Because it was not a combat accident, it was not recorded, I suppose either. Thank you Mr. Sheppard for this additional info.
When you look in the accident list, at the end of: http://usafunithistory.com/PDF/0500/...GHTER%20SQ.pdf for date 45-03-14, the two aircraft of Palmer and Rickert are listed. But location FRA (France) is not correct. The gridcode: K 5474 can be transferred into GPS-coordinates with the https://www.echodelta.net/mbs/eng-translator.php First step: 1/ select the "Nord de Guerre grid" Second step: 2/ fill in "vK5474" Third step: push Convert! The location found is near the crash location. |
