Re: Peter-Paul Steindl JG52 and JG26 informations
http://www.asisbiz.com/il2/Bf-109E/JG54-Stab.html
There is a half-dozen pics of <I5+ in the two bottom rows. The infos i found : The special camo appeared early in 1941. During the Balkans campaign (APR 1941), II(&III)./JG 54 were ordered to hand all their aircrafts to JG 77. So my guesses are : The in-flight and under the camouflage net pics were taken in France (FEB-MAR 1941). The refuelling pics (yellow fuselage band) were taken in Yugoslavia (APR 1941). Re: Peter-Paul Steindl JG52 and JG26 informations
"The problem is rather why this old E-model was still on strength when the Russian campaign started in 1941. Must have been one of the last ones to go."
Photos are from the Balkans campaign in April-May, 1940. Still flying 109Es!! |

According to his death notice his name was Paul Ernst. He was married with Hedy Steindl, born Schmidt.

Re: Peter-Paul Steindl JG52 and JG26 informations
Dear Kaczmarek,
Thank you very much for your answer. So, he was married. It's really hard to find such information online. It's strange that he is always called Peter-Paul or Paul, while his real name was Paul Ernst... Best regards, Teresa |
