Lt.Helmut WEISSBRODT JG 51 and JG 1 ?

Hello,
In the photo on the right is Lt.Helmut WEISSBRODT 7./JG 51, on the left is his friend Lt.Herbert Swoboda (DKiG) JG 1.
I think Lt.H.Weissbrodt 7./JG 51 is the same man as Lt.Helmut Weissbrodt 8.Staffel JG 1, who died 5.12.1944.
Information in Kracker Lw.Archiv and an excellent database: Luftwaffe Officer Career Summaries by Henry L. deZeng IV and Douglas G. Stankey talk about two men, but I think they're wrong.
Please provide any further information.
Thank you all in advance.
Regards Tony

Re: Lt.Helmut WEISSBRODT JG 51 and JG 1 ?

I had the names as two different guys originally as well, because the Jul-44 loss reported the pilot killed and the Dec-44 loss as missing, returned uninjured, but the two losses have been amended in the recent Prien, et al, Die Jagdfliegerverbände, 13/IV.

FW 190A-8, 730923, Weissbrodt, Ltn. Helmut, , III.(II.), 7. (II.), JG 51 (JG 1), blaue, 2 + -, , , 04-Jul-44, WIA due to Luftkampf with enemy fighters., , FR, Prien, et al, Die Jagdfliegerverbände, 13/IV, p.116; Prien & Rodeike, JG 1 & 11, II, p.1191, , Raum St. Lô, 100%, F, , ,

Re: Lt.Helmut WEISSBRODT JG 51 and JG 1 ?

The 7./JG 51 was transferred from the East to Germany on 28.05.44, it was re-equipped with the Fw 190A-8 and subordinated to II./JG 1. At the 15.08.44 the Staffel was renamed 8./JG 1.

Hi Jim and Gerhard,
Thank you very much for your answers.
I also noticed this different information about the death of JG 51 and the renaming of the unit.
Thank you very much again.
Regards Tony
