Bristol, 25th November 1940

On Monday 25th November 1940 the day following the first Bristol Blitz I observed from NW Bristol an aircraft (German?) flying South East over Bristol trailing smoke. It was shortly after the air raid sirens sounded in the early afternoon. Have always presumed it was a reconnissance aircraft but have never been able to find out.
Can anybody help me with some information. I was 11 years old at the time

Re: Bristol, 25th November 1940

Dear brewerjerry,
Thank you for that information. I see on http://fishponds.org.uk/luftbri8.html that two aircraft were over Bristol on 25th Nov. 1940. one was at 2-4000 ft. Mine was well below that hight so I think ir was probably an He111.
Why it had a trail of smoke I do not know as it does not appear to have crashed. It could of course have been an RAF plane although we were between a warning and an all clear siren.
Anyway thank you so much.
John
