Luftwaffe P-51 tail

Just found on E-BAy. The tail of a camouflaged P-51D that was captured by the Luftwaffe and found after the war.

Re: Luftwaffe P-51 tail

Probably, although the picture of the entire A/C (Stranger in a Strange Land-Stapfer-p. 58) shows no markings. The aircraft belly landed and is missing the canopy. It is camouflaged overall in Dark Green with yellow undercoating.

Re: Luftwaffe P-51 tail

Hello,
See the "T" on the underwing in both photos.
So yes "T9" most likely.

As an extra, wasn't there a list that had all of the Zircus Rosario's aircraft ?

Alex

Re: Luftwaffe P-51 tail

I am not disputing that the P51 in question is from Rosarius's Unit but the T on the underwing is from a seperate aircraft and not from this P51 which may or may not have carried markings on the underside

Re: Luftwaffe P-51 tail

The P-51 apparently had a white "T" on right side of the fuselage German cross which may indicate an individual plane letter rather then unit code.

Re: Luftwaffe P-51 tail

Hi Eduardo - First I have heard of this. Is there any photographic evidence for this.

Re: Luftwaffe P-51 tail

No, I can see it increasing the e-bay picture. But it can as well be the remains of USAAF code .
