Crash locations of 83 Sqn Lancaster ND740 and 207 Sqn Lancaster LM261, 11-12.9.1944

Dear all,

For the research of the NJWD 2nd edition, I am looking for details about the crash locations, cause of loss and time of crash of 83 Sqn Lancaster ND740 and 207 Sqn Lancaster LM261, both lost on the 11-12 September 1944 Darmstadt raid.

Any info much appreciated!

Cheers, Theo

Theo, the fact that LM261's crew was first buried in Belgium would indicate a loss over that country. Danny

Hi Theo,

One of the documents I have about this crash mention the following details:
Post Presumption Memorandum No.1345/48. File Number P.422916/44 date 11.3.48 Relating to Lancaster LM.261 Missing on 11/12.09.44. Crashed at Namur area, Belgium.

The crew of this aircraft were buried in the Fosse American Cemetery, later they were concentrated to the Leopoldsburg British Cemetery.

Best regards

Luc

Hi Luc,

Many thanks for your info re. the crash location of LM261 -I had hoped that this could be tied to the following NJ claim, but the Namur area is a bit far off the Hirson area:

Uffz. Konrad Weisswurm: 1 7./NJG101 4-mot Hirson area (RJ): 3.200 m. 00.09

Cheers, Theo
