ID of this RK winner
Mölders and Lützow are two of the pilots in this photo. Can anyone ID the third? Thanks.

Re: ID of this RK winner
Günther Lützow is on the right and is wearing Oak Leaves--was awarded the Swords on 11 October 1941. Werner Molders is in the center, is wearing a coat, so this photo was taken before 11 October, 1941, but after the onset of cold weather.
The man on the left looks like Anton 'Tony' Hackl to me, but it's not. He's wearing Oak Leaves (which were awarded on 9 August 1942, after the death of Molders on 22 November, 1941.) Note Hackl photos below! Therefore, the contenders are: Galland/nope, Wick/nope, Oesau/nope, Joppien/nope, Müncheberg/nope, Ihlefeld/nope, Balthasar/nope, Schnell/nope, Priller/nope, von Maltzahn/nope, Bar/nope, Hahn/nope, Philipp/nope, Nordmann/nope, Hoffmann/nope, Gollop/nope, von Kageneck/nope. Hmmm...... (Wilcke is not awarded the Oak Leaves until 9 September 1942.) Last edited by Broncazonk; 8th July 2021 at 01:57. |

Re: ID of this RK winner
Further research tells me it probably is not Wilcke since he appears to have Oak Leaves also and he wasn't awarded that until after Molder's death. I came across the attached image in:
https://zidnenovine.wordpress.com/ta...i-svetski-rat/ which indicates it is Karl-Gottfried Nordmann. Notice that clothing is the same so I am sure this image was shot at the same event. |

Re: ID of this RK winner
Hello,
Undoubtedly, Karl-Gottfried Nordmann. You will find another shot of the threesome in Ernst Obermaier's, Die Ritterkreuztraeger der Luftwaffe Band I Jagdflieger 1939-1945 (2nd rev. ed.), p.41. For those that have the first edition, it is on p.47. Col. |

Re: ID of this RK winner
Thank you, Chuckschmitz, for this thread. I have always thought the man on the left was Tony Hackl. Now we know!
And, after reading his bio, I'm amazed that he survived the war... Bronc Last edited by Broncazonk; 17th January 2018 at 18:52. |

Re: ID of this RK winner
I also agree, that's Nordmann.
Way too tall and lanky to be Oesau.
