6./KG 40 - Ogefr. Paul Bookschulte

I hope someone may be able to help.
During the night from 22/23 December 1941 6./KG 40 carried out a mission towards England believed to be London ( die Hölle" as nick-name for those crews). Four months later three out of the four crew washed ashore on the beaches near Haamstede and were locally buried one day later.

I would like to recive more information about that particular mission because we have the intention to publish that story in our upcoming publication and aprt from that the relatives of Ogefr. Paul Bookschulte (whom we met yesterday and among them his now 90 years old sister Agnes) are very eager to learn more about what happened that night.
Look forward to any reply and thanks in advance

All I have is it was lost on a combat mission 23 Dec 41. Target (which was normally coastal related) nor cause not stated. No claims apart from a Do 217 on the evening of 23 Dec but bodies would not have ended up in Holland if lost over western UK. Cannot see any attack on London that night

Leo

This a very odd WNr (for me) you are quoting.
Can you please confirm it is correct?

Cheers
Stig

Just checked the Luftflotte 3 reports-missing for this night but that month II./KG 40 favoured attacks on Newcastle. I have Wk Nr 5304

Hi Stig,

in the Gen.Qu. loss report the WNr. is clearly 9304. So I have quoted a wrong number.

Re: 6./KG 40 - Ogefr. Paul Bookschulte

Thanks Leo

However since there is nothing else, as far as I know, in any WNr range beginning with the digit 9 I tend to think that 5304, as Chris states, is the correct one.

Cheers
Stig

Re: 6./KG 40 - Ogefr. Paul Bookschulte

thank you all for the contributions. What I can add is that Ogefr. Paul Bookschulte washed ashore on 28 April 1942 (at the beach of Haamstede) and that on the very same date Gefr. Rudolf Fischer washed ashore near the small village of Brouwershaven.
Both were buried at the temporary military cemetery at Haamstede (29/4)
The body of Lt. Hans Ungerer was recovered near the island of Tholen (and buried at the military cemetery Wouwsche Straatweg - Bergen op Zoom.

Also at the end of April a not identified body of a German airman was discovered near Ouddorp and - though no proof - it could very well be that of Ogefr. Rudolf Schwab. This body was also buried together and at the same date as the others at Haamstede.

Again thank you all
Wim
