@Marcel van Heijkop:
Thank you for the heads up Marcel. I will definitely read this book now that you tell me, that it also contains information about the training. I thought the book only showed facts and pictures of the planes the pilot students flew.

Thank you for the pictures. They are very interesting to read. One of the bomber pilots actually went through his basic soldier training at a particular airfield which I have researched quite a bit. It is the "Fliegerhorst Quakenbrück" situated in Lower Saxony. Could you perhaps tell me the pilots name and when he was born? He is the one in Part 1 all the way to the right.

That would be Reinhold Trenz - born 15th Nov 1916 / Killed 17th Sept 1943

Kein problem Danke für den link.
There where just one thing in the article that I did not quite understand. It says that after attending the Candidate Flight Company (CFC) for two months the candidate would move on to a 6-12 months of basic training? But he already have basic training before the CFC.
From what I have read the basic training took 5-6 months and the CFC about 2 months and then the candidate would be ready to attend flight school.

Thank you for the information. Do you have other pilots or other personel that have been to Quakenbrück?

Not that I know of although it isn't really something I have kept a look out for. I shall have a look through what I have and see if it turns up.

Re: Luftwaffenflugzeugführerscheines

You need the books:

"Die Flugzeugführerausbildung der Deutschen Luftwaffe 1935 - 1945" Volumes 1 and 2 by Sven Carlsen and Michael Meyer.

They detail everything from initial basic training, pilot training schools A/B, C school, blind flying, what of course is required for your license and progress to advanced pilot school, fighter, ground combat, transport, weapons and reserve training units etc......very good books!!

EDIT: I see you have read the first one....do you have the second? I thought they broke down what you wanted......

I looked into it briefly some time ago:

The break down of aircraft is as follows:

A Aircraft:

A 1: Upto 500 Kg flying weight, one or two-seater, single engine
A 2: Upto 1000 Kg flying weight, one to three-seater, single engine

B Aircraft:

B 1: Upto 2500 Kg flying weight, one to three-seater, single engine
B 2: Upto 5000 Kg flying weight, over three seats, single or double engine

C Aircraft:

C: Over 5000 Kg flying weight, over three seats, two or more engines.

After completion of A1, A2 and B1 training and examination you qualified for you Pilots license - Luftwaffenflugzeugführerschein (Land) - LF
After completion of B2 and C training and examination you qualified for you Advanced Pilots license - Erweiteter Luftwaffenflugzeugführerschein (Land) - ELF

I do have numerous documents, some already shown but also individual training records, combat selection and advanced schooling records.

/Ian

Thank you Ian. They are very good books and I have spent a lot of time studying them in detail, but now I am ready to dive even deeper into the training. I want to find out what the individual lessons where about.

For instance for the A 2: (volumen 1, page 108)

Schulflüge mit Fluglehrer
3 Einweisungsflüge

What was the student taught in these 3 flights? I can guess, but is there nowhere to find out exactly what was shown?

The same goes for all the other flights and the theori lessons.

I would very much like to see some of the documents that you have on individual training

Best regards
Henrik

Re: Luftwaffenflugzeugführerscheines

Hello all

I am back and still researching the pilot training of the luftwaffe pilots. I have been looking at "Flugbücher" with great interest, but they are hard to come by because they are very expensive to buy. Does anyone know where one could see complete "Flugbücher" without paying a hefty Price?

I have also found this:
https://www.deutscheluftwaffe.com/ar...eurteilung.pdf
It is a fligthbook that shows the Progress of how well the pilot is doing in his training. Does anyone have similar flightbooks?

Best regards
Henrik
