EKM Unit Identities

Can someone tell me what units used 62720 and 58215 in 1944?

Re: EKM Unit Identities

Chris,

did You meant dog-tags (EKM = Erkennungsmarke)?
And if: As far as i know the German dog-tags weared individual digits, such as date of entry to military duty etc. with no specific troop codes.
Due to avoid mistakings - i believe - because of common troop-transfers/-changings to happen, there was no special unit-code applied on them.
If i am wrong at all or misunderstanding Your entry: Sorry!

y/f
Norbert

Re: EKM Unit Identities

62720 V.KG2

58215 II.KG51 + some others

Dont be sure that these EKM WERE attributed to units in 1944, so personel scattered a bit everywhere from their unit of origin, anyway they hv to do with the Me410

Re: EKM Unit Identities

Thanks Remi. The former belonged to a pilot from 6/KG 51 and the latter from a Bf from same unit so things match-I was hoping there was a link to an earlier unit.

Norbert:

Yes these are what we call the sevice number on dog tags (mine is 8027507T!). However, you can work out initial units from the first set of digits

Re: EKM Unit Identities

Chris,

thank You for clearifying.
So one can read out the start unit of a dog-tag by entry to military service, but no further/later belongings to other units when changing - right?

Best Regards
Norbert

Re: EKM Unit Identities

62720 - 4./KG 40, 14./KG 2 and 4./KG 51. Unfortunately I don't know, when it was changed fron a unit to another.
58215 - 6./KG 2 and in 1944 12./JG 77

Matti
