Yellow plastic glass from FW 189

Hi all!
High number of yellow plastic glass pieces have been collected from the crash location of a FW 189. They are about 4mm thick (see attached photo). Can anyone tell what device they originate from?
Thaks in advance.
Boris

Re: Yellow plastic glass from FW 189

Possibly parts of a landing light cover lens or canopy glazings that’ve yellowed with age/exposure?

Hi Boris,
I think that what you have there may very well be the remains of a lens filter for the on-board Rb 50/30 camera.

Dave

Almost certainly from canopy glazings. I have seen many such pieces from other Luftwaffe a/c and were presumably anti-glare. Not something that obviously shows up on black and white photos but I have in my collection a large piece from the nose glazing of the KG 55 He 111 down at East Beach, Selsey, on 11 July 1940.

Hi,

If it is perspex I would agree with Andy's comment, if glass I would go with the camera filter!

Re: Yellow plastic glass from FW 189

As Andy has pointed out, these fragments could be from an anti-glare set-up but amongst my odds and ends I have two Rb camera filters, one of which is perspex (or a derivative thereof) hence my belief that the fragments shown by Boris might well be the remains of such an item.

Cheers

Dave

The only thing certain, Dave, is that my good lady is convinced that I have lost the plot now that I am discussing bits of broken yellow perspex or glass! Must get out more.
