Maj. Herbert Lutje activity 14 March 1945

Hi,

I’m interested in seeing is there any combat reports or recollections survived of the activities of Maj. Herbert Lutje Wing Commander of NJG6 on the evening of 14th/15th March 1945.
He has a claim of one 4 engined bomber shot down that night. (At 2120hrs) If there are any details of the base he operated from and/or take off time and landings etc. would be much appreciated.
Any surviving accounts of his combats from that night at all.
Thanks all for any info
Regards Aaron.

You can order his personel file from the Bundesarchiv in Freiburg: RH 7/299 Lütje, Herbert

Hi,

The NJG 6 war diary has him shooting down a Lancaster at 21.24 hrs at a height of 2700 metres, north-west of Nuremberg.

Hope this helps,

David

The file which Carsten mentions RH 7/299 Lütje, Herbert is only a recommendation for an award, I do not believe that this is her service file.

I was supposed to go down to Freiburg in the middle of March, but unfortunately the bordes closed (and the Bundesarchiv a couple of days later). I am going to Freiburg as soon as they open up again and I am willing to copy the file.

Hi Carsten, thanks for that offer, I don’t require his whole record, all I’m after is any documentation or reports in regards to his activities and flight on the evening of 14th March 1945. I’m in no rush, so whenever you can is fine. Thanks all
