airfield near Magdeburg to ID

Hi

Just read an interesting report on a 9AF P47 unit that claimed 68 aircraft destroyed and 44 damaged on 16th April 1945. The claims were for Bf109's, Fw190's, Ju88's, He111's and a Me262.

Has anyone any idea of the airfield.

Of course numerous overclaims of destroyed and damaged. There was probably around 36 P47's in the attack. No 9AF loses.

regards

MS

I would love to see a definitive list of all aircraft lost by all combatants, preferably by date and then compare that with the claims. It would be a monumental task, admittedly.

Re: airfield near Magdeburg to ID

Hi

Having had a look it could well have been Burg-bei-Magdeburg airfield NE of Madgeburg. This was a nightfighter airfield by all accounts and had NJG/11 who were equipped with Me262's and Flugzeugführerschule B 16 with He111 and Ju88's.

There was also a Magdeburg Ost and Magdeburg Sud but these were small??

Any more thoughts?

regards

MS
