Luftwaffe Confirmed Kills against "shootings out"
The Osprey book on JG27 claims that some of the kills claimed and given to JG27 late in the war over Europe were Herausschusse...literally shootings out.
This I know meant they shot out of formation a US Heavy bomber, thus leaving it alone over Europe damaged and almost definately going to fall foul of either radar predicted flak or other Luftwaffe fighters, but did the pilot who commited the Herausschusse get a kill credited to him and, if yes, did another pilot who later finished off the unfortunate US heavy also claim it as a kill ? Thus two potential kill claims for one aircraft shot down |

Re: Luftwaffe Confirmed Kills against "shootings out"
Hi guys,
The whole Abschüße/Herausschüsse/endgültige Vernichtungen system is - I think so - well explained in the JG 300 book's introduction on pages vi to viii (volume 1 from Eagle Editions). Proof-readed by german former pilots. |

Re: Luftwaffe Confirmed Kills against "shootings out"
Hi Jon,
Officially only one pilot should get credit for the destruction of the aircraft but if you look at the Luftwaffe claims listings HSS were often counted in the kill totals of pilots. The confusion comes about because of the Luftwaffe points system for determining decorations. Shooting a viermot out of formation (HSS) was worth more points than destroying one already out of formation (e.V.). Regards Andy Fletcher |
