Re: Color photo of two female Soviet Air Force officers

It looks like the link given to the colorized photo that started this thread no longer works.

I think the first photo on this next link is that photo:

Re: Color photo of two female Soviet Air Force officers

The book "Colors of the Falcons" by Jiri Hornat says the January 1945 camo album requires all new production aircraft and aircraft in repair depots to be painted in grey/dark gray overt light blue scheme then used by fighters. I would say the photo may have been taken near the end or just after VE day.

Good afternoon Kirche,

nice to hear from you.
So far I thought that Fotii Morosov had the most missions of all Soviet fighter pilots.

Anton Yakimenko's supposed high mission total was new to me. This profile indicates a much lower figure
http://soviet-aces-1936-53.ru/abc/y/yakimenko.htm
My Russian is not very good. Therefore I cannot discern if the text tells us more about wether he holds the record.
This table provides the total that you mentioned

Have a nice weekend,

Michael

Re: Color photo of two female Soviet Air Force officers

In reply # 8 there is picture of the female not wearing rank. I am not sure this but I have read that after the end of WW II/GPW recently discharged military personel were allowed to wear there uniforms minus rank. This was because civilian clothes were in short supply in the USSR at this time. So it was not unusual to see a man wearing a uniform or parts of one in the USSR even in the early 1950s.

Re: Color photo of two female Soviet Air Force officers

Good evening James & Co,

that's an interesting observation.
When working through the numerous short biographies in "STALIN'S FALCONS" it caught my eye that many Soviet aces survived the war but only very few reached an age of 70+. It seems as if the life expectancy in the USSR was far lower than in today's Western world.

Have a nice Thursday,

Michael

Re: Color photo of two female Soviet Air Force officers

When you look at it in the USSR men drank lots of vodka, Smoked a lot, and had a poor health system. Many "hospitals did not have running water in the late Soviet period. Add to this in the 1990s the country fell apart. This is not good for someone who wants to live to a ripe old age.

Re: Color photo of two female Soviet Air Force officers

Hello, Michael
This is from Wikipedia, but it should be borne in mind that men, and even more so, who have passed the War and were wounded, the duration is usually lower.

Hello James,
This photo of Irina Sebrova "without shoulder straps" was taken during the war period - you can roughly see which orders the girls already have, and which ones are not yet from those that will appear later. The orders for awarding are known.

Military uniforms without insignia could always be worn in Russia since the First World War. In addition, those who were granted this right upon dismissal (for long service or special merits) could wear a military uniform according to the charter (and with shoulder straps and all insignia). The same rules apply now, when there are no problems with clothes.
