Re: Ensign Robert J. Adkins, USNR, crash 26 July 1944
Adkins was killed in a mid-air collision with Ens. J.J. Tuohy, who also died.
They were both undergoing operational training at Sanford and were flying FM-1s, 15250-Adkins and 15762-Tuohy. The collision took place during a tail chase.

Re: Ensign Robert J. Adkins, USNR, crash 26 July 1944
Thanks for info.
Somehow findagrave has 21 July 1944 for John Joseph Tuohy, Jr. No headstone image to see if in error. As an aside, the newspaper East Hampton Star of 18 October 1944 reports the marriage of (a) Major John Joseph Tuohy, USAAF, who had served in the SW Pacific for 18 months. His father?
