Pilot training > WW1

How many hours did it take for a trainee pilot to get his wings in WW1?

After getting his wings, did the pilot get further training or was he sent straight off to an operational squadron?

Thanks

Re: Pilot training > WW1

I think you will find that the training period depended on what year of the war and 'the exigencies of the service' at the time. In Britain Lt. Col Smith-Barry started a standardised training scheme which was badly needed. Before that time some courses were badly run and resulted in effectively untrained pilots being sent off to war. I would like to know how the other combatants did their training.
