Bernard

The final RAF communiqué was issued on the same day hostilities ended, ie Nov 11th, 1918.
214 Sq carried out a successful raid on Louvain railway sidings and junction during the night, 112 112-lbs bombs were dropped and manydirect hits being obtained. An ammunition train was hit, causing explosions and fires all over the sidings. Hostilities ended at 11.00H

An unknown unit also made some kind of daylight attack and delivered 750 kgs of bombs.

No enemy aircraft were encountered.

Cheers
Stig

Bernard,

To answer your question, I believe the last recorded combat took place south of Charleroi 11.00 - 11.35 a.m. on November 10, 1918, between Bristol F2Bs of No.20 Squadron and Fokker DVIIs of Jasta 50.

The British claimed 4 enemy aircraft downed: Lt G.E. Randall & Lt G.V. Learmond claiming 2 E/A west of Louerval, 2Lt F.H. Solomon & 2Lt A.D. Sinclair 1 E/A, and Lt H.W. Heslop & 2Lt J. Hackett another though Jasta 50 seem to have reported no losses. One Brisfit was lost, that of 2Lt E.A.C. Britton (PoW) & Sgt R.J. Dodds (KIA), falling to the OC of Jasta 50, Lt Hans von Freden, over Froid Chapelle.

Re: Last RAF Combat over France in WWI

Hello

Tiny corrections:
1°) 'Louerval' for Loverval
2°) 'Froid Chapelle' for Froidchapelle

Best regards

Hi Peter,

I came accross this post of yours regarding the last recorded combat of WW 1 whilst searching Google for H W Heslop, my grandfathers brother. I was wondering if you know any more infomation about H W Heslop, or could advise me of any other online resources that may have information.

Regards.
