Re: Luftwaffe bomber loss on 16. 9. 1940 near Bury St. Edmunds
Chris I do not oppose, simply in this case it seems to be strange for me.
May I ask what "crash records" do you mean to be able to mention them as a source? TIA Pavel

There are a number of sources but the main ones which were the basis for the Luftwaffe Crash Archive series of books were the K Reports available in the NA

Re: Luftwaffe bomber loss on 16. 9. 1940 near Bury St. Edmunds
Hi Pavel
My late father was at RAF Honington on 16 September 1940 (he was a soldier with the searchlight unit based there). On that date he was doing 'jankers', manning a Lewis-gun pit, when a Do17 swooped over the airfield and dropped at least two bombs. Although my father was ordered to open fire, his gun jammed after only a few rounds. The Dornier escaped unscathed! See my book 'BLUE ON BLUE' for more information. Sgt Jo Capka of 311 Squadron also provides a description in his book 'RED SKY AT NIGHT'. Hope this helps. Brian (I live in Bury St Edmunds) |

Re: Luftwaffe bomber loss on 16. 9. 1940 near Bury St. Edmunds
Hi Brian, thank you very much for your reply. I have checked your book already - I remmeber this story of your father but I have failed to put it in connection with this case.
As for Jo Capka - I have recently compared his book with the squadron ORB and other primary sourcers and his book is not 100% correct - he often mix up differrent events. Pavel
