Childers, flying in VF-9, was credited with on H.75 shot down and 1 H.75 probable in Operation Torch.

5/9/1943 - LT USN, VF-9 USS Essex (CV-9) embarked for Pacific deployment
9/16/1943 - LT USN, VF-9 (XO) NAS Barbers Point F6F mid-air collision nr NAS Kaneohe ok
12/24/1943 - LT USN, VF-9 (XO) NAS Ford Island
2/15/1944 - LT USN, VF-9 (XO) USS Essex (CV-9)
3/15/1944 - LCDR USN, Date of rank from 1 Jul 1944 USN Register
