Re: MACR's 16524 and 16526 ?
MACR 16526 is correct with George Danish as pilot and can be found by MACR number or plane number (42-5248) on fold3.
https://www.fold3.com/image/38631212 https://catalog.archives.gov/search?...orNaIds=305256 MACR 16524 does not have a plane listed on fold3 but the crew is listed. It can be found by MACR number on fold3 (only). There is more information in the fortlog which includes both the plane number and the crew list. The pilot was John H Holmes. https://www.fold3.com/image/38621978?terms=16524,95 see page 46: https://www.91stbombardmentgroup.com...ID/FORTLOG.pdf "41-24415 Ass 92BG Bangor 14/7/42; 414BS/97BG Polebrook 24/8/42; Maison Blanche 13/11/42; Tafaraoui 22/11/42; Biskra 25/12/42; Chateau-du-Rhumel 8/2/43; coll mid air w/25147, prop sheared part of tail off, crew man bailed out over Mediterranean Sea, w/John Holmes, Hadden, Dunn, Ludolph, McDonald, Haygreen, Rich Brown, Leibowitz, Lane, Lewis; c/l at base 9/5/43. Sal. MACR 16254. YANKEE DOODLE II." Raymond C Lewis, the tail gunner, was the crewman who bailed out over the sea. He was seen in the water but was not rescued. The plane crash landed back at the base. The second image on this link shows the damaged tail. http://www.americanairmuseum.com/aircraft/309 Last edited by RSwank; 5th October 2020 at 16:06. |
