Re: Airplane, AUFKL(F) crash in France 22. July 1944

Hello,

The concerned aircraft was a He 177, belonging to the Wekusta 2 ( a meteorological reconnaissance unit). It crashed just after taking off, at 5 km N.W. of the Mont de Marsan airdrome. Cause of the crash : motor on fire. The 6 crewmen, including Uffz. Karl LABMEYER, were killed in this crash.

An article of the french magazine "AVIONS" , dated May-June 2008, relates the second part (1943-1944) of the history of the Wekusta 2 and gives some information about the crash of this He 177.
