KG 54 first EKII of the war - date?

Good night to all.

Does anyone do have Radtke, Siegfried (1990). Kampfgeschwader 54 von der Ju52 zur Me 262, Eine Chronik nach Kriegstagebüchern, Dokumenten und Berichten 1935-1945. Schild Verlag München. ISBN 978-3880140981?

Is there any information about DATE and names regarding the first EKII attributed or granted to members of KG 54 on that book?

I would like to know when (DATE) and to whom those first awards were granted.

I have a copy of the book but there is only a list of the Knight's Cross recipients and one of the DKG & DKS recipients in annex.

I am afraid impossible to say as EK II were so plentiful unless recorded in a diary and even then there would have been more than one awarded at the same time

Post Re: KG 54 first EKII of the war - date?

hello adriano,

I would try a request here:

Quote:
Documents on the awarding of medals and individual decoration proposals can be found in the following fonds of the military archive:
RH 7 OKH / Heerespersonalamt (Army Personnel Office)
RW 59 - Personalverwaltende Stellen der Wehrmacht (Personnel Management Bodies of the Wehrmacht)
The awards lists document the presentation of the Iron Cross (Eisernes Kreuz) and the Military Service Cross (Kriegsverdienstkreuz). Only a relatively small amount of the documents have been lost. However, the following Iron Cross awards lists have been lost as a result of outsourcing: from the Polish, Norwegian, Western and Balkan campaigns and from the Eastern campaign of the Infantry Divisions 1 to 132 until the summer of 1943.

Re: KG 54 first EKII of the war - date?

MARC, fantastic discovering (for me at least), of this File held at the Bundesarchiv. Will try to inquire there, if possible.

CHRIS: My question was about the very first EKII...they certainly may have been celebrated at least...and the crew recorded. Off course, during the war, to record each EKII would be impossible, I do agree. But somehow, the first awards may have occurred during the Polish Campaign or very soon after...my question was to whom and the date?

I do have a photograph showing this cerimony...however no date and no crew names reported...so no clues....it is only written the first EKII and KG 54.

Re: KG 54 first EKII of the war - date?

Hi,

it was on 18.9.39 at airfield in Neukuhren. I have some photos of these in a photoalbum of member of 2./KG54 and I think first EKIIs were handed over to the wounded airmen that crashed on landing on 10.9.39.

Regards

Robert
