Need photos of 1./JG3 "White 6" in a salvage dump at Philippeville, France, in June, 1940

Hello,

For profiling purposes, I'm looking for additional images of the a/c in this photo, which probably FL after combat at the airfield at Philippeville, France on or about 19 June 1940. It ended up in the salvage dump there. I particularly need images of it before the cowling was removed (should have white Tazelwurm insignia) on both sides, views of the front of the wings to know whether it was an E-1 (probably) or an E-3, and a view of the tail before it was removed, to see whether the swastika was tail centered or fin only.

Can anyone help? Usually there a number of photos of such a/c in the salvage dumps in France, but this is the only one I've ever seen of this particular 109.

Hi Larry,

Philippeville is in Belgium or Charleville in France ?

Distance between these two towns are about 60 kms.

Bertrand,

I believe that this is supposed to be Philippeville, Belgium, but the location might have been Charelville, France. Whichever place we can find photos in a dump of this "White 6" is the right place.

Hello Larry,

I cannot help with Philippeville (F) but well the one in Belgium, if of any interest.
Sorry about the credit, forget it.

There was a gathering of wreckage (110, 109, Storch) on the field in front of the farm, but not really a dump.
The road Beaumont-Philippeville was along the strip, but at the bottom of the hill. I don't remember someone told me the wreckages were along the road.

Best regards

ClinA-78

Sorry, I mean the road was 'lower' than the strip, which was on a kind of hill.

ClinA-78,

Thanx for posting this photo. Yes, this is Philippeville, Belgium. The two planes are "Black 10" from 2./JG3 and "Yellow 11" from 3./JG3. These planes were supposed to have cracked up, possibly in a ground collision, on 21.05.40. Black 10 is one of our EoE Color Profile a/c. We'd love to know who the pilot was. Unfortunately, of the several photos of Philippville known, including this, White 6 cannot be seen. Perhaps that means that the photo of "White 6" was taken at Charlevile, France. Anyone have any photos of the salvage area there?
