Some Soviet losses 1941
I have some Soviet aircraft losses during 1941 from the book Soviet aircraft and aviation 1917-1941.
15 oct 1941 12 Ps-84/Li2 attacked by Bf 109s one flown by L.N. Ovsyannikov carrying 38 women and children was downed. the pilot managed to land the burning aircraft on the shore of lake Lagoda. This was a AGON (Air Groups for Special Duties) ex-Aeroflot aircraft. This could be a JG 54 claim. 3 Landplane versions of the KOR-1/BE2 based at Kacha in the Crimea in September 1941 flew bombing missions against the Rumanians and 2 were shot down I would say possibly in the Odessa area. Anyone know possible victors? JG 77, ARR or Flak. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Some Soviet losses 1941
James, could the date be the 13 Oct 1941 instead of the 15th. Otherwise no claims by JG 54 for this date.

Re: Some Soviet losses 1941
Regarding the second part of your question the naval air regiments 96 OIAE, 8 and 32 IAP were the single ones based at Katcha .
I don't think that any of these regiments operated KOR-1/BE-2 aircrafts nor they ever dispatched on September '41 any assets to support the Odessa fighters . When were both KOR's shot down eventually the source of the info in order to come up with accurate details ? Finally the newly formed naval air group ( end Sept '41) " Freydorfskay Escadrillia which also integrated 11 ScHAP ,it operated a few serviceable KOR-1 ( 3) beside other types, though Freydorf was not near Katcha and was engaged in sept '41 in defence of Perekop. The Freydorfskey Group lost on Oct 5,41 two I-15 or I-153 due Romanian AA and fighter activity near Odessa There are no records of such loss near Odessa nor the time frame u've mentioned . Re: Some Soviet losses 1941
#2 The 15th of October was the date given. It could be another unit, or Finnish Air force or "friendly" aircraft or the author or someone wrote down the wrong date.
#3 it looks like my source was wrong. This is not the only account that has KOR-1s flying missions against the Rumanians during this period. |
