J R D Braham's "Scramble" and "Night Fighter" - differences or the same?
Good night to all members.
Please do let me ask some of you that are "old hands" if there are differences between the book SCRAMBLE! published in 1985 and NIGHT FIGHTER, published in 1984. I had read the first (SCRAMBLE) some 5-10 years ago and recently acquired the second (NIGHT FIGHTER). The stories and general shape of both books looks like the same...his shooting down in June 1944, his meeting with Spreckels, etc...his flying hours when he came to his first unit (29 Sqn), etc. Maybe some of you can point me any significant differences...and why he published another book, later which seems the same "re-shaped"? I thought I would find something different but was rather disappointed to find the same "déja vu". References: Braham, John Randall Daniel. (1984). Night Fighter. New York: Bantam Books. ISBN 0-553-24127-3. Braham, John Randall Daniel. (1985) Scramble!. London: William Kimber. ISBN 0-7183-0587-6. Yours must sincerely, A. |

Re: J R D Braham's "Scramble" and "Night Fighter" - differences or the same?
Adriano
Braham wrote (well, published) his book Scramble in 1961. My own US paperback edition is from 1968 and called Night Fighter. Making a guess, for the US readership, a title like Scramble would not mean a thing, while Night Fighter says exactly what the book is all about. So, maybe simply a British (Scramble) vs a US (Night Fighter) edition? Differences? Again a guess, US paperback editions have been known to shorten some books. The case here? No idea. Cheers Stig |

Stig,
Guess you gave me the most reasonable answer I could ever have thought about...I sadly do not have the "Scramble" version at hand to compare each chapter against the US version "Night Figther". But I shall do in due time. Meanwhile, my big thank you! Yours, Adriano |

Dont forget 'Night Fighter Ace' By by Tony Spooner (1997) which expands further on Bob Braham's wartime career and later life.
