Re: Unknown Emblem on a Bf 109 E

... Last - If I can dare a remark -
The chamois being put Inside a white lozange in the later variant ... well, not exactly a white lozange but the Bavarian Blue/White diamond.

That is correct Franck. This emblem is more than meets the eye - it is about the unity of the two neighbouring regions, and perhaps it also alludes on the broader unity of the two Germanic nations.

I am tending toward the Gemse idea.

Is there some kind of encyclopedia of German-Bavarian-Austrian heraldic emblems?

I'm sure 100% about that unity stuff.
To answer to Ed West question I just wrote "Wappen Kitzbühel" in the browser, than opened "all pictures related to my research" ...
It's amasing to discover how much coat of arms - in a single page - have been used as inspiring sources not only for I./JG51.
But JG26 and JG54 too, at least ...

Re: Unknown Emblem on a Bf 109 E

I have updated the resolution of the photos from 800 pix to 1200 pix for more details.

The russian website is nice. All informations for my website are removed from the photos, but the filenames are the same. ;-)
Thats not good, but OK. Non commercial spreading the photos in the web (world) will safe them for the future.

Have fun...

Re: Unknown Emblem on a Bf 109 E

Falcon,

On the day when I posted my query, I did not realize that the photo was taken from your excellent website. With the benefit of hindsight, I must say that I do not have any excuses though, because since recently? you have significantly improved your search engine, and this emblem could have easily be found searching for the Abzeichen (unbekannt) (i.e., emblems (unknown)). My apology.

Regards,
Sinisa

Sinisa, no problem. The search system with tags is now one year old. But 25% of the photos (~2000) are currently not yet tagged.
The photos of the WNr. 1950 I have tagged when I was reading this thread. ;-)
