US-operated post-WWII Göppingen Gö 3 Minimoa NC18163 • War trophy, ex-NSFK?

Hi there,

Before World War II, American glider pilots owned three German high-performance Gö 3 Minimoa gliders. In 1942 one of them was bought by the USAAF and destroyed in the course of destructive surveys.

Suddenly, after the war, at the turn of 1946 and 1947, another Gö 3 registered NC18163 appeared in the USA. Does anyone know if it was just a glider seized by the Americans from some NSFK airfield or if it was legally bought from the German authorities?

Thank you for possible answers.

Best regards.

Hello,

Thanks a lot for this info.

Do you know who this Gö 3 belonged to in the 3rd Reich?

Do you know anything more about this glider? Among the ETO-based US combat glider pilots were fans of soaring. Were they the ones who took this Gö 3 to the USA?

Regards.

Not quite the answer to your question, but an interesting story related to (I believe) that model of sailplane:
