Crash Landed Liberaror VI

I have three pictures of a crash landed RAF B-24J (Liberator VI) on what looks to be a German occupied airfield (notice hangars in background)

I think this is Liberator VI, EW108, 31 SAAF, which crash landed at Okecie Airfield near Warsaw on August 14,1944. Can anyone verify?

Re: Crash Landed Liberaror VI

EW108 loss recorded as occuring in India, means to be EW105 :

Re: Crash Landed Liberaror VI

IF it is EW105 Bryant's memories are not correct, since he remembers his aircraft loosing it nose turret and replacing it with an aerodynamic cover.

To me, these photos show a Lib with its nose turret in place

Cheers
Stig

Re: Crash Landed Liberaror VI

Thanks Stig. Well, it was a forlorn hope. The only information I had on the event was that Lt. Klette crash landed on a German airfield and his crew survived.

These photographs came from an expired E-Bay auction and there was no other information.
I've puzzled over the series and attempted to blow up parts of the background to see if I could identify it, but no such luck. I can see permanent hangars in the background, so it is a established airport. The airplane is a B-24J (?)/ Liberator VI with camouflage and RAF markings. Probably 205 Group. Any other ideas?

Also, if anyone can identify the location, that would be a great help. It looks like a well established airport with permanent buildings/infrastructure.

Re: Crash Landed Liberaror VI

Hi Kaki3152
This is an amazing find.
It seems that the photo was taken at the Okecie Warsaw airfield because some Polish historians have identified the 3 chimneys of the PZL aircraft factory next to the airfield.

I think we will have more confirmation soon, they are looking at it now.

The very interesting aspect is that Lt Bryan Jones who was the navigator of this plane is still around and the last Warsaw airlift survivor in South Africa and I have regular contact with him.

Could I please ask you to send me a better scan of the photos, will be much appreciated.

Many thanks
Tinus le Roux

Here a documentary I made of the Warsaw airlift including the story of Bryan Jones.

Re: Crash Landed Liberaror VI

WOw, great news. I thought it may be this Liberator as not that many RAF/SAAF Liberators crash landed on German airfileds.

Re: Crash Landed Liberaror VI

BTW, isn't that a crash landed Ar 240 in the foreground in the picture? Pretty rare bird.
