Yes indeed

Has anyone bought or seen the Me 321/323 book by Trojca?
Since I have two books on the subject already I am curious if this book gives any new info, and if so what that is....

Cheers
Stig

Still debating buying it myself but if you'd like some more info, here's a link to the publisher's website with a detailed description and ~40 sample pages:

Re: New Luftwaffe Books: 2014-05-01

Hi Stig,

I'm glad you asked. My copy hasn't arrived yet, so when I searched for more information about the book's contents, I found that it's actually available in two different versions:
Two things to note:
The Model Hobby version is described as a dual language book, but appears to have the same number of pages as the VDM version (not sure how that works.) The former is also quite a bit more expensive than the latter.

From the descriptions of its contents, this promises to be the most complete reference yet published on these aircraft. We'll see when it arrives.

In the meantime, here's a list of other useful Gigant resources:
  • Dabrowski "Messerschmitt Me 321/323: The Lufwaffe's 'Giants' in World War II"
    Schiffer, 2002, 240 pages (hardcover), ISBN: 0764314424
  • Dabrowksi "Messerschmitt Me 321/323: Giants of the Luftwaffe"
Schiffer, 1994, 50 pages (softcover), ISBN: 0887406718 (Originally published as "Waffen-Arsenal Special Band 6: Giganten der Luft")
  • Roba, Ledet "Le Messerschmitt Me 323 Gigant: L'Histoire d'un geant du ciel"
    Lela Presse, 2011, 168 pages, ISBN: 9782914017619
  • Peter "... schleppte und flog Giganten"
    Motorbuch Verlag, 1976, 223 pages, ISBN: 3879434263
  • Pawlas "Luftfahrt monographie LS 3: Die Giganten, Me 321 - Me 323"
Publizistisches Archiv, ~1970, 336 pages, no ISBN
  • Mankau, Petrick "German Gliders in World War II: Luftwaffe Gliders and their Powered Variants"
    Schiffer, 2010, 304 pages, ISBN: 9780764335198
  • Schmoll "Nest of Eagles: Messerschmitt Production and Flight-Testing at Regensburg 1936-1945" -- Chapter 10
Classic, 2010, 192 pages, ISBN: 9781906537128 (Originally published as "Messerschmitt-Giganten und der Fliegerhorst Regensburg-Obertraubling 1936-1945")
Regards,

Re: New Luftwaffe Books: 2014-05-01

Thanks Leon

Yes, I have the two obvious books, by Dabrowski (the big one...) and Roba but also some of the more general books you mention.
Which one did you buy, the German or bi-lingual edition?
Anyway I am interested if you are able to evaluate the text in the copy you bought. I am not saying I am not interested in photos of the types, but due to its size (they must have been the Luftwaffe's biggest massproduced aircraft), photos are usually quite indifferent since no one really grasped how to photograph such a big "bird".

Mark
Thanks for the pointer, but it did not give me any new details really.
BTW any connection to Eric Blair?

Cheers
Stig

You're welcome Stig. No direct connection but he did start me on the path to studying the SCW. After looking at the pages, I think I'll follow your lead and wait for Leon's review as the sample pages didn't give a flavor of the text.
Cheers and thanks in advance to Leon for his review.

OK Mark

Well, Leon, seems it is up to you to decide what Trojca has done (or not...)
