Can anyone supply details of Mitchner's pre-war career? I know he was educated at unidentified schools in Sakatoon, was active in the Scouts and the YMCA, courtesy of the eminent Mr Halliday and his much used, "The Tumbling Sky"- if you don't have it already - get it!
but his career on leaving school is less clear...
Halliday seems the most detailed giving his job as a book-keeper in the employ of a Vancouver fuel oil company in 1940 (which one?), but other sources state he was a librarian or a salesman but don't specify where. Given he was born in 1914 and was therefore twenty-five when was broke out it may be he worked other places. One source states he was a book-keeper for three years (1937-40?).
Also, when he was with 116 Squadron (August-November 1942?) did he just fly the Hurricane or was this an attempt to give him flying hours in other aircraft (Lysanders, Spitfires and Oxfords) ?
