National Archives - List of Luftwaffe POWs?

Hi guys

Can anyone enlighten me? Are there lists of Luftwaffe POWS, particularly from 1940, tucked away in some Air file? Also, any lists of 1940 Luftwaffe fatalities buried/cremated in UK?

Cheers
Brian

Some information about German POWs can be found here:

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/c...&CATREF=WO+307

At first, German POW records were going to be destroyed but in 1960, they were transferred to the WASt in Berlin. I don't know if the records are broken down by service branch.

It's a long time since I read it but IIRC one of the PRO's information leaflets said the records of individual prisoners of war were still held by the Ministry of Defence, which at that time meant they were still classified (no Freedom of Information Act back then).

For years you couldn't get the ADI(K) or CSDIC interrogation reports at the PRO either, although you could buy them on microfilm from the USA.

Nick

The ADI(K) and CSDIC interrogation reports could you advise which record group they are in, as I would be very interested in being able get copies if on microfilm. Or better yet if you had the full reference!

Kind regards
Pierre

I think if you search this board, I've posted quite a lot of these file numbers before (and Richard Eger has probably picked them up on the Luftwaffe Archives Group site).

Otherwise go to http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk and search in file series AIR40, AIR51, and WO208

I'd rather not go back through years of notes to find all the references again if I can help it!

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission has published a list of German airmen buried in the UK. They will supply copies at a price. BN

Hi All,
If anyone would like a copy of the CWGC list of German graves, please email me, I'll send as an attachment, this is a world wide list, UK graves start on page 427.
Joe.
