KG 40

Can anyone point me in the right direction for finding accurate info on KG 40 losses in Nov 41? I have some items belonging to a pilot of that group who died in that time frame, and I'm trying to find out all I can about the event.

Ian

Re: KG 40

...and before you ask, the only KG 40 lost in combat in Nov 41 was FW 200 C-3, 0083, F8+ZL of 3/KG 40 (Oblt Karl Krueger & crew all killed) shot down by fighters from HMS Audacity

Re: KG 40

Should have checked the other Gruppen! There was another-Do 217 E-3, 0333, F8+CM of 4/KG 40 lost on an anti-shipping sortie off the East Coast. It had taken off from Soesterberg at 2048 hrs and was then shot down after it attacked the trawler Francolin 2 miles off Happisborough (Haisborough?) Lighthouse at 2247 hrs. Oblt Herwig Schmid (born Windhoek 18 Feb 17)-F, Gefr Georg Seeberger-BS, Fw Ewald Hoffmann-BF & Ofw Hinrich Wurthmann-BM all missing

Re: KG 40

22.03 hrs 01/11/41 : 7/KG40 Heinkel III [H-6] 4430 coded F8+KR en route Liverpool downed P/O Shipard/Oxby Beaufighter X7540 over Anglesey. 4 crew all KIA : Lt G. Leins; Uffz A Tepe; Uffz G Fischer; Gefr R Terstegen.

08/11/41 FW-200 3/KG40 described by Chris (above) attacking convoy OG76 location Western Approaches. Fighters were Martlets.

12/11/41 : Do-217 4/KG40 lost shipping strike east coast - also described by Chris' post above thought the dates might be useful. No further KG40 losses for Nov 41 in the UK far as I can see. Several KG40 losses December '41 though.

Re: KG 40

Chris,

That's the one, thanks. Did you put the loss list together through your own research?
