When was III./NJG 1 at Krefeld?

Hello,

I am trying to find out when III./NJG 1 was based at Krefeld. Most sources state that they were there in January 1945, but based on at least one logbook, one crew arrived already in late November 1944 and stayed only until end of December 1944. Did they return to Krefeld in January 1945?

Thanks,

Roger

Re: When was III./NJG 1 at Krefeld?

ROGER,

I met twice (in late 90's) the former Gruppenkommandeur of III/NJG 1 who confirmed to me, verbally (I took notes then), that his Gruppe was based at KREFELD and then Husum.

He informed me that, with the end of the war close, he ordered the burial of ALL documents and War Diaries of his Gruppe nearby a tree (sadly for us)...

Adriano

Hi Adriano,

thank you for that interesting information. It's a pity that so much valuable information was destroyed during the last days of the war. But then again, that makes Luftwaffe research interesting as there are still new things to be discovered.

Cheers,
Roger
