Flugbuch of Hans-Joachim Jabs?
Did the Flugbuch of Hans-Joachim Jabs survive the war? I haven't found any reference to it.
Thanks, Roger |

Re: Flugbuch of Hans-Joachim Jabs?
Regrettably not, I asked Jabs specifically about this in the 1990s. Part of the FB of Erich Weissflog, Jabs' regular Bordfunker, is in private hands.

Re: Flugbuch of Hans-Joachim Jabs?
Hi Theo,
Thanks for the info. Do you know the content of Weisslflog's Flugbuch? I am specifically trying to find out if Jabs ever flew a Bf 110 coded "+JA". Thanks, Roger |

Re: Flugbuch of Hans-Joachim Jabs?
Weissflog recorded about 17 flights in Bf110s coded 'G9+JA' between 22-May-44 & 2-Feb-45. No indication if they were all the same machine or not. Surprisingly while the FB records flts 599 thru 960 from 28-Mar-42 to 7-Mar-45, only 50 of those were from 22-May-44 through the end of the war.

Re: Flugbuch of Hans-Joachim Jabs?
Thank you very much Jim. It’s interesting that he flew the aircraft so many times. Is there any mention that the aircraft was damaged on one of these flights? I am askin as I have a photo of it on a railroad car after it was captured by US forces.

Re: Flugbuch of Hans-Joachim Jabs?
Nope. I would suspect that given the timeframe there likely was more than a single 'JA'. And note during that time he also flew AA, BA & CA.

Re: Flugbuch of Hans-Joachim Jabs?
I know that when with 6./ZG 76, they flew aircraft whose individual codes matches the pilot's surname such as M8+NP=Nacke; M8+HP=Herget; M8+BP=Birndorfer; M8+GP=Guth; M8+JP=Jabs. Maybe he continued this when he could later in the war

Re: Flugbuch of Hans-Joachim Jabs?
Thank you Jim. That's useful information.
Chris, that's interesting and would explain why he flew an aircraft with a relatively late letter in the alphabet. Is this information based on indications (i.e. names and matching flight log data) or on statements of any of these pilots after the war? |

Re: Flugbuch of Hans-Joachim Jabs?
Just for curiosity...some sources do inform that Jabs flew 710 combat sorties, whereas other sources do says 510.
Some sources do point that he was awarded with the Frontflugspange in Gold mit Anhänger "600", but I have never seen a photograph of Jabs wearing this award. This tend to suggest that his total may be as high as 710 sorties. Is there any kind of references to those milestone sorties on the Flugbuch of Erich Weissflog? Which total is correct: 710? or 510? And why sources do vary so much? A. OBS: I was in touch with Jabs in late 90's. |
