He 111 Losses Mediterranean 28 Jun 43

Has anyone got a matching loss? I have a camera gun shot taken by a pilot from 252 Sqn flying over a ditched He 111 on that date

Chris

I have details of three Luftwaffe losses in the Med for the 28th June 43, and they were two Ju88's and one FW190. I know of no He111 losses on or near the 28th.

Regards

David

Re: He 111 Losses Mediterranean 28 Jun 43

The book "Armed Rovers. Beauforst & Beaufighters over the Mediterranean" says nothing about this date. It cover with many details the activities of several units, including 252 Sqn.

On the 27th June 1943, 4 Beaufighters of 252 Sqn bombed an Italian convoy in the Levkas Canal, to the south of Patras and hit the 3779-ton Quirinale that was beached and finished one week later. The books says nothing about an air battle or victory during this raid but maybe the crew flew over a ditched He111 one day before the date you gave.

No victory in this book for 252 Sqn in June or July 1943. Before that a Ju52 claiemd shot down on 11 May and 4 floatplanes claimed destoyed at anchor at anchor at Prevesa, Greece (with a nice picture of the attack provided in the book). After that 252 Sqn claimed a Ju 88 on 13 September.
