FW 190 claimed
Hello,
While I was looking for a P38 claim I found a claim for an FW190. In Tony Woods files. 26th August 1944 Claim made by a Luftwaffe pilot for an FW190. My question's are - 1, What Air Force did the FW 190 belong too that a Luftwaffe pilot would shoot it down ? 2. What became of its pilot, ? 3. Who was he ? Alex |

Re: FW 190 claimed
I guess you are talking of this claim:
26.08.44 Uffz. Schatermann: n.i.O. 3./Trapo 5 FW 190 £ 35 km. N.W. Otopeni: no height 08.19 Film C. 2025/I Anerk: 1 This was made over Rumania, I guess by a gunner of a transport plane of TG 5, and was proabably a misidentification of a Rumanian IAR fighters (many such misidentificated claims were made by US pilots over Rumania in 1944). Fw 190 were not used by any enemy of Germany in September 1944. The same day a JG 77 pilots claimed a Rumanian IAR-39 reconnaissance plane according to the same source. 26.08.44 Oblt. Kohrt 10./JG 77 IAR-39 £ westl. Buzau: 50 m. 09.25 Film C. 2035/II Anerk: Nr. - |

Re: FW 190 claimed
Hello,
Many thanks for the swift response. I wondered if it might have been a "blue on blue" situation. But then would he have made a claim, let alone it being verified . Alex |
