Re: Ju87 D-5 recovered

Hi Kari,

That was one of the thoughts I had also. I saw I/SG5 were on the Leningrad area in early 1944.

Trying to find out if there is any other information to be gleaned from the recovery/owner.

regards,

Mark

Re: Ju87 D-5 recovered

Suppose the next question is when and where this D-5 was manufactured? Data plate is missing from the wreck but there is a nice painted one on the fin.

Tony,

Kari helped me 20+ years ago when the archives were accessible. He helped with the research on the Fw189 2100 and Bf109E 3579.

As an ally, all aircraft movements through Finland were recorded. The main resupply base was Pori. They were flown here and prepped before flying through Finland to Northern bases.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem as easy any more by all accounts.

regards,

Mark

Re: Ju87 D-5 recovered

i've found something that might be useful at German Docs in Russia, Akte 524.

There are 642 pages covering December 1941 to August 1944, so you never know your luck. From a quick look, there is an order of battle for Luftwaffe units in Finland on 1 November 1943 and this gives:

I./St.G 5 Stab and all Staffeln at Nautsi with a strength of 39 Ju 87 D-5 (plus two Ju 87 R-2 in the Stab).
